This pair of ‘corner’ wall lights (1990) by Gaetano Pesce, lot 444 in the Artcurial Design Sale tomorrow really caught my eye. In wood and metal with a resin diffuser, their trompe l’oeil effect is playful and original while the blue/green light they produce diffuses the room with a soft and hazy atmosphere. I saw a similar corner light, also by Pesce in a private house in Palma this summer and was bowled over by the play of light it produced.
Estimate €800-1,200
Meret Oppenheim’s ‘Traccia’ table, lot 486 in tomorrow’s Artcurial Design sale looks uncannily like it could just start moving and walk away. Created in 1972, its base is in bronze while the wooden top is covered in gold leaf. I love the play of functionality with the whimsical and fun aspect of the base - the eternal dialogue between form and function.
Estimate: €3,000-5,000
